Uraninite (Czech)
A genuine uraninite specimen from the Czech Republic featuring a rich, dark metallic-black uranium mineralisation hosted within a contrasting natural matrix of light-coloured gangue minerals and quartz-rich material. The specimen displays extensive uraninite coverage across much of its surface, creating a striking appearance with a lustrous to sub-metallic sheen that highlights the natural character of this historic uranium ore.
Under magnification, the specimen reveals a fascinating mineralogical landscape, including sparkling crystalline textures, uranium oxide alteration products, and scattered golden metallic flakes. These golden inclusions are believed to be iron pyrite, commonly known as "Fool's Gold", although some display a colour and reflectivity remarkably similar to native gold. While their exact identification has not been confirmed, they add an intriguing visual element and geological mystery to the specimen, making it particularly attractive for collectors and researchers alike.
Microscopic examination also reveals beautiful iridescent mineral coatings displaying vibrant blue, purple, green, and gold colours. These natural surface effects create exceptional visual contrast against the darker uraninite-rich matrix and provide a unique display quality rarely observed without magnification. The combination of massive uraninite, contrasting host rock, possible pyrite mineralisation, and colourful secondary surface features makes this an outstanding collector specimen.
