Scientific Safety Compliance
At U-ROCKS, safety and responsibility are at the heart of everything we do. We are passionate about the study and collection of uranium mineral specimens and take great care to ensure every sample is handled, prepared, and packaged to high professional standards. Our goal is to provide collectors, researchers, and educational institutions with authentic mineral specimens while promoting safe handling, proper storage, and respect for these unique natural materials.
Understanding Natural Radioactivity
Radioactivity is a natural process in which unstable atoms release energy over time. For mineral collectors and enthusiasts, understanding alpha, beta, and gamma radiation helps build both scientific appreciation and safe handling practices. Minerals such as Torbernite, Uraninite and Autunite are naturally occurring uranium minerals that have been valued by collectors, researchers, and museums for many years. With the right knowledge, proper storage, and responsible handling, these unique geological specimens can be appreciated safely and respectfully.
Isotopic Purity
Naturally occurring isotopes verified through laboratory spectroscopy.
Decay Constant
Scientifically stable and naturally preserved over millions of years.
Safe Handling Practices
U-ROCKS specimens contain naturally occurring radioactive minerals, so safe handling, proper storage, and responsible collecting practices are always recommended.
Protective Barriers
When handling specimens, we recommend using disposable nitrile gloves and protective eyewear. Avoid direct skin contact where possible, and never ingest or inhale any dust or particles during handling or study.
Lead-Lined Storage
Store specimens in secure acrylic display cases or appropriate protective containers in a well-ventilated area away from regularly occupied living spaces.
Active Monitoring
Use a reliable Geiger counter or digital dosimeter to monitor activity levels when handling specimens. Regularly checking your workspace helps maintain a clean and safe environment.
Storage & Safety Compliance
Shielding Protocols
Store specimens in lead-lined containers or dedicated acrylic display cases to minimize gamma and beta exposure in living areas.
Radon Mitigation
Uranium minerals naturally emit radon gas. Ensure storage areas are well-ventilated or utilize charcoal-filtered containment systems.
Secure Access
Samples must be kept out of reach of children and unauthorized persons. Store in locked cabinets with clear radioactive hazard signage.
Responsible Collecting & Care
The U-ROCKS Specimen Guide
Owning a uranium mineral specimen is a unique and rewarding experience for collectors and enthusiasts. This guide provides simple and responsible practices to help preserve the quality, appearance, and historical value of your rare geological specimens.
Physical Preservation: Handle specimens carefully and avoid unnecessary direct contact. Using gloves or soft handling tools can help protect delicate crystal structures and preserve their natural condition.
Storage Stability: Keep specimens in a dry, low-humidity environment to help preserve the natural condition and appearance of delicate secondary minerals.
Documentation & Provenance: Keep original labels, locality information, and collection details whenever possible, as the history and origin of a specimen are an important part of its scientific and collector value.
Operational Compliance & Global Safety Standards
At U-ROCKS, we are committed to responsible collecting, safe handling, and compliant shipping practices. All specimens are prepared and packaged with care, following applicable safety guidance and transport standards for naturally occurring radioactive minerals.

We encourage collectors to store specimens responsibly in a secure, well-ventilated environment and to follow recommended handling practices to ensure a safe and enjoyable collecting experience. Our goal is to help preserve the scientific, historical, and geological value of these unique specimens for collectors, researchers, and educational use.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES & SPILL RESPONSE
01. Physical Spill
In the event of physical fragment breakage, immediately isolate the area. Use a damp cloth to collect all particles to prevent dust inhalation. Seal all remains and used cleaning materials in a double-layered airtight container.
02. Dust Exposure
If dust is generated, vacate the room immediately and shut off ventilation systems to prevent spreading. Allow particles to settle for 30 minutes before re-entering with appropriate respiratory protection (N95/FFP2 minimum).
03. Ingestion/Injury
If a fragment is ingested or enters a wound, seek immediate medical attention. Inform the medical professional that the material is a uranium mineral (uranium oxide or phosphate) to ensure proper screening for heavy metal toxicity.
04. Radon Leakage
In case of storage seal failure, ventilate the area for several hours. Radon-222 is a heavy gas; focus ventilation on low-lying areas. Re-seal the specimen in a tested gas-tight lead-lined box or glass display with silicone seal.
